Like every year, All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE)-2013 is expected to be conducted on 6th January, 2013. This blog article is being made to help those of you parents to know about the admission process of Sainik Schools, so that you can make an informed choice while deciding to send your son to Sainik Schools. In a follow-up blog post titled: AISSEE Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Papers & Books, I would provide you the prep materials to help your children prepare for the same.

What are Sainik Schools and why should your Son study in a Sainik School?
Concept of Sainik Schools evolved from the need to homogenize regional and class imbalance amongst the officer cadre of the Indian defense forces and were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India. With this objective, five Sainik school were established for the first time in 1961: Sainik school Satara, Kunjpura, Kapurthala, Balachadi, Chittorgarh. Remaining schools were established thereafter.

Sainik Schools have been set up to prepare students for joining the defense forces of India - Army, Navy & Air Force. So far, more than 7000 of pass outs from Sainik Schools have joined as officers in the three defence services, rising up to the rank of of Generals in the Army and equivalent ranks in the Navy and Air Force. Approximately 40% of  cadets who joined NDA (National Defence Academy) from 2006 to 2010 were from Sainik Schools. Although primary purpose of Sainik school is to send its student to NDA, its student have excelled in all walks of life - Administrative services, Engineers, Doctors, Management, Lawyers and even politics (two Chief ministers - Neiphiu Rio, Chief minister of Nagaland was from Sainik School Purulia while Jarbom Gamlin,  former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh was from Sainik School Goalpara)!

The success of  students from Sainik Schools arises from the fact that the students are not only schooled for academic learning, but are also trained for all facets of life - sports & games, extra-curricular activities like NCC, debating, extempore speech etc. As a result, students develops a well-rounded personality and hence can cope up with any challenges in life.

All Sainik School are affiliated to CBSE board and are also members of  the prestigious Indian Public Schools Conference. The academic session starts on 1st April and ends on 31st March.
